Shrimp Fried Rice! Shrimp Fried Rice!

Okay, I’m not one to shout from the rooftop who I’m politically supporting. Like my feelings, I keep my political views well protected but share with a few who share my same views. For 10 plus years, I’ve considered myself an Independent and swore up and down that I would not choose a major political party. Sure, I’ve leaned more left than most of my friends because my father is very liberal and he’s not afraid to say or show it and that sorta rubbed off on me (the liberal side not the sharing side). However, he did say that the only time he voted Republican was when Barry Goldwater was running for President back in the 60’s and I just learned that Mr. Goldwater was called “Mr. Conservative”.

So, all these years, I’ve sat out on voting during the primaries because Utah doesn’t recognize Independent voters. I’ve sat on the sidelines hoping that someone good would make it to the general election. And the term “good” is relative. I’m moderate in my views and believe in, although it may be too idealistic, bipartisanship. I cannot stand how simple issues cannot be discussed because it either came from a Democrat or a Republican. Filibusters enrage me.

Not only am I moderate in my views, I’m also a flip-flopper. Call me insincere or easily swayed. Good thing I’m not running for office. For me, it doesn’t matter that a candidate has changed his or her view as long as it matches mine. I mean isn’t there one moment in life that you realize that you were wrong about something and changed? I’m just sayin’.

So, what’s my whole point? Well folks, I’m no longer unaffiliated with any party. I chose a side. However, these days it seems as if no one can have moderate views. But, I do because once again I’m hoping for bipartisanship. What side did I choose? You can determine for yourself.

This is a big step and I may flip-flop back to my unaffiliated status a few years down the road.

Um, I haven’t washed my hand since last Friday. Just kidding.

Note: My title comes from one of my favorite episodes of How I Met Your Mother.

Honestly, I don't think you're alone in flip flopping, so much of politics is in the gray area. I still don't know who I like in the upcoming election...I guess I need to do some research. :)
